La salud de las víctimas de trata se ha analizado principalmente en términos de riesgos para la salud, de asistencia sanitaria y de apoyo a los servicios médicos. Las consecuencias sobre la salud psicológica de las víctimas, en cambio, siguen siendo en buena medida desconocidas. Basándose en una metodología cualitativa y cuantitativa, el proyecto PHIT pretende aumentar el conocimiento sobre el impacto psicológico de la trata para (a) definir su naturaleza y los síntomas asociados con él y (b) poner de relieve las diferencias en las manifestaciones de los síntomas (según el origen geográfico, la cultura, los factores de vulnerabilidad y de riesgo propios a la persona etc.). La obra también analiza cómo el impacto psicológico de la trata incide en la intervención de los diversos agentes que están en contacto con las víctimas, así como su actuación puede tener consecuencias revictimizadoras.
